Teaching Philosophy
A well-defined teaching philosophy provides the foundation to clarify goals, direct behavior, and to organize evaluation. A statement of teaching philosophy, not only functions as a personal way to document beliefs, values, and approaches, but also functions as a way to inform others of those beliefs, values, and approaches.
People often emphasize the importance of an art education by focusing on the idea that art makes a person more creative and perceptive. A complete art program allows every student to increase positive attitudes towards self, others, and the environment through creative experiences. Art Education is a building block to an individual’s perception and understanding of the world in which we live. It is a continuous learning experience that teaches students to respect and value their own interpretations and how to grow from them.
An education in the arts stimulates the imagination, develops self-esteem and encourages openness towards the opinions of others. Art offers opportunities to students that are not available through other subjects alone. Art programs are diminishing in schools due to the lack of passion and encouragement from not only the faculty as a whole but parents as well. As a teacher I will encourage passion, creativity, and knowledge of art into all my students. I believe that a successful art program embodies a healthy balance between Art History, current art, basic principles and concepts of art, imagination, and experience. My goal as a teacher is to teach students that there is no exact way to create art; creativity and imagination are the foundation of masterpieces.
